Devonshire experienced sub-freezing temperatures and icy conditions during the week of January 15, which affected hot water supply for some of the residents with tankless hot water heaters. An estimated 40% of homes in Devonshire rely on tankless water heaters for their hot water needs. These innovative appliances are often installed on the exterior of homes, in attics, or garages. While praised for their energy efficiency, tankless water heaters require preparation and maintenance during cold temperatures.

Tankless water heaters, also known as on-demand water heaters, provide hot water on-the-fly, minimizing energy wastage associated with traditional tank-style heaters. While Devonshire residents enjoy the energy savings and continuous hot water supply, experts advise taking precautions during winter.

Owners are advised to schedule professional maintenance before winter arrives. A certified technician can check for any issues, clean internal components, and ensure the unit is in optimal condition for the colder months.

Winterizing tankless water heaters may include insulating exposed pipes and the unit itself, or adding a low-wattage heater near the unit. Regularly inspect the exterior components, especially after snowfall, to remove any accumulated snow or ice. Clearing these obstructions prevents damage and ensures proper ventilation.

As Devonshire embraces the eco-friendly trend of tankless water heaters, residents are urged to balance the benefits with winter preparedness to ensure uninterrupted hot water supply, even in the coldest months.
